Judicial Bypass Wiki
In many countries, there is no violation of customs laws when you get the pills at your home address. Customs laws allow individuals to get prescribed medicines for personal use. It is not allowed to get bulk quantities of medicines by mail for business use without an import and shipping license. When a shipment is delivered to your country there is a chance that your package may be subjected to import taxes. In that situation, you will be contacted by the courier agency. This is a regular procedure. To get the package, you may be expected to pay import duty, give an invoice and a prescription.
Supporting Minors: Navigating Abortion Regulations and Judicial Bypass
- Obtain a judicial bypass, which entails seeking permission from a judge.
- Request services from a provider, such as Aid Access, operating in a state with unique “shield laws” for telehealth abortion services.
Both options are detailed in this FAQ.
Currently, 36 states necessitate parental consent or notification for minors seeking abortion care. Parental consent entails one or both parents or legal guardians signing paperwork authorizing the abortion. Parental notification requires the abortion provider to inform your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) about the abortion before proceeding. Abortion providers must adhere to these laws if they are serving a minor residing in a state, traveling to a state, or using a telehealth provider in a state where parental consent or notification is mandated. In such states, providers cannot assist you without parental notification or consent.
If you prefer not to involve your parent(s) in your decision, you have two options:
- If you are less than 13 weeks pregnant (counting from the first day of your last period), you can have abortion pills mailed to you by Aid Access. They serve minors in all states and territories and can do so without requiring parental consent or notification because they operate from states with special laws that do not necessitate this.
- You can seek a judicial bypass (permission from a judge). The process for obtaining a judicial bypass is free but may be complex, involving a court process that typically takes between 1-3 weeks. It often includes filling out forms and arranging a meeting with a judge. The Judicial Bypass Wiki provides guidance on how to obtain a judicial bypass, and organizations like If/When/How, the ACLU, Jane’s Due Process, and other local organizations can also offer assistance in this process.
